The Mortal World: A False Mirror, 2022
Acrylic on Wood Board
18 in x 24 in
An abstract painting, The Mortal World: A False Mirror embodies the juxtaposition between the eternal and mortal, truth and false, orderly and chaotic, straightforward and deceitful. The triangular composition on the right is an abstraction of a peacock and its feathers; the peacock is a symbol of deception in Islamic lore for hiding its muddy feet with its beautiful feathers. The brush strokes resemble twisted branches of a forest with no clear path but the distracting beauty of colours. Contrastingly, the alternate triangular composition on the top left resembles the light of truth shining through the branches of a forest canopy, signifying how having a purpose in the mortal world grants one a definitive path to walk on, in which there is hope after death.
