The etching and aquatint series manifests how arching and circular movements of prayer are emulated within nature, the built environment, Eastern and Western topographies, indoors, outdoors and in outer space. People and birds simultaneously circumambulate around the Kaaba in Mecca, towards which a man and the symbolic Canadian Killbear tree painted by the Group of Seven prostrate. Narrower plates depict a prayer mat laid out under the Killbear tree as if the tree were praying on it; the moon's phases in an arched form mirror the arched back of the prostrating man beneath it. I scraped and burnished the copper plates to emphasize movements flowing between the plates when seen in series.
