Palette Knife Study
Acrylic on Bristol Board Paper
17 in x 14 in
I enjoy taking risks by exploring new mediums, styles, and the use of symbolism; in this piece, I experimented with applying acrylic paint solely with palette knives and changing colours. For example, I turned the brown hair blue, black mask red, and beige shirt yellow to complement each other. Also, I used various palette knife techniques to make this piece: pointillism, marbling, thick flat edge, textures and thick flat edge.  For the face, I used pointillism to accentuate value and form; for the hair and background, thick flat edge strokes added interesting textures.
