I have recreated a Palestinian bridal headdress with an Indian silk brocade shawl, Pakistani Sindhi cap, Canadian nickels and embroidered North American Native medicinal flowers. The intersections of cultural textiles and symbols embedded in this headdress speak to the fluidity of cultures and worldviews unrestricted by geographical borders. Furthermore, this headdress is a celebration of the Hijab–a modest and dignifying head and face covering worn by Muslim women–by elevating the symbolic garment as a form of art that speaks of Islam as a way of life unrestricted by cultural borders.
