This acrylic painting is my first abstract piece, influenced by Helen Frankenthalers’ abstract expressionist style. The painting captures the ambience of spring, playing with the layering of colours, organic shapes and lines to incite emotions of happiness and rejuvenation. Creating an abstract painting was a daunting notion for me, as I tend to focus on details and realism; thus, I made thirty thumbnails before coming up with this idea. In the end, I believe I created a successful abstract painting and now appreciate the art of creating original and unique artwork that tells so much from so little.
“What concerns me when I work, is not whether the picture is a landscape, or whether it’s pastoral, or whether somebody will see a sunset in it. What concerns me is – did I make a beautiful picture?”
– Helen Frankenthaler
